Roseland Hunters

Roseland Hunters
Self Produced

Funky delicious! That about sums up the base of the Roseland Hunters. This hot band was the concept of guitarist and vocalist Michael Quinby who at one time was part of Joe Louis Walker’s touring band. He has amassed a phenomenal group of musicians to explore his vision of New Orleans inspired tunes blended with his feel for the blues. If you’re a fan of bands like The Meters, The Neville Brothers or Royal Southern Brotherhood, then the Roseland Hunters are going to be right up your alley.

This self-titled five-song EP offers a nice insight to that sound of the band. The core unit of the group is made of Chris Phillips on keys, Reinhardt Melz on drums, Damian Erskine on bass and Brian Foxworth on percussion who also throws in his angelic voice. This is a virtual dream team of elite musicians and yet they’re joined by other stellar artists on this recording including Curtis Salgado, LaRhonda Steele, Mac Potts, Asher Fulero and Justus Dobrin.

Though the disc only has five tracks, they’re all sensational. Very percussive and the blend of the vocals is right on target. Guitar chords are sharp and the keyboards are upbeat with flurries of Crescent City flair. All the numbers are originals, with Quinby’s hand touching each. The songwriting is superb and these are definitely songs that will make you want to dance right from the opening beats of “Steal For Me” through the closing number “This Time.” There is not a moment of let-up at any point and more than likely you’re going to start the whole disc over again immediately when it ends.

Michael Quinby has intentions of releasing a full-length CD in the near future. If it is anything as funky cool as these songs, it will be a quick purchase for me for sure. The Roseland Hunters bring a party to your ears.
