CBA Board – Intent to Run 2014

It has certainly been an honor to serve as your Cascade Blues Association President for nearly 12 years and I am asking if you would consider me back for a 13th year. My main drive with the Cascade Blues Association has never wandered, it has always been about how we can garner more attention for our local artists locally, regionally and nationally. I have also held the ethic that all musicians are treated equally and fairly. That is why you see promotions of events in the BluesNotes whether they are co-sponsored by the CBA or not, as I believe it is the role of the blues society to inform its members of all blues related events. I have been the main contributor of the BluesNotes for many years, with nearly every article in the paper aside from the Bandstand and most feature stories having been composed by myself. That in itself is more than a full time job. I try to attend as many shows and events as I can, taking the time to document the scene with photographs. I travel usually twice a year to Memphis where I assist in the International Blues Challenge as a venue coordinator in both a club during the week and on the finals stage at The Orpheum, and to the Blues Music Awards where I work as part of the stage management. Over the years I have been very reliable in making all Board and Membership meetings; in fact the number of meetings I have missed in nearly 16 years on the Board of Directors can be counted on one hand. Supporting the musicians and the venues is a passion, so being involved with the Cascade Blues Association helps me to give back to those that mean so much to me.

Thank you for your consideration,

Greg Johnson

To the esteemed membership of the Cascade Blues Association, I am announcing my running for the office position of Membership Secretary.

I would like to give more back to the Cascade Blues Association than just my own membership of attendance. The Portland Blues Community has given me more than camaraderie, it has contributed to the musical harmony of my soul and the joy of living in the Portland area.
I am currently employed part time on call for ORSI, as a clerk for the last 5 years with 2 years on their OSHA Safety Committee. I also maintain the social media site, Facebook, for Fine Finish Magazine as a Marketing Editor since 2011. In addition, I am owner of my own business, Designs To Order, and attending Mt. Hood Community College. I have over two decades of office management experience and a proficiency in a variety of computer programs.

I would like to bring all the joy and happiness that the Cascade Blues Association has given my family and me to any whom has the desire. Please consider selecting me as your membership secretary for 2014.

It’s CBA Board election time again and I would like to be considered for the position of Vice President. As many of you know, this is a role I have held for 2 years (albeit one of them interim). I have enjoyed representing and promoting one of the – correction – not ONE of the – but THE best Blues Association in the country. Wherever I go I talk about our CBA activities and I promote the blues music scene here in Portland. Being your Vice President has been very rewarding and I hope I have lived up to the membership expectations. Aside from stepping in when the President is not available, I also do many behind the scene activities. I proofread all the articles that go into the BluesNotes, I maintain the monthly calendar and solicit input monthly from talent so that our calendar can have the most up to date content. I also post “what’s happening” on our facebook page regularly and I get out there and attend as many live shows as I can. My travels bring me to a variety of festivals around the country, as well as sailing on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise – and I always make sure to promote CBA while I am attending these events.

Please consider me for the position of Vice President for the 2014 calendar year.

This is to express my interest in serving as Secretary of the Board for the Cascade Blues Association. During the past six months I have gotten to know many of the Members, and began service as an At-Large member of the Board in July. In addition to participating in Board meetings, I have assisted the Association by working at the CBA tent during the Waterfront Blues Festival; helping to move the office; facilitate the annual Picnic; working at the rummage sale; and most recently, assisting at the Muddy Awards ceremonies.

Though I am relatively new to the CBA, I bring a strong record of volunteering, including serving as President of the Promotional Marketing Association of Northern California (2011), President (2006 and 2007) and several other roles for the Northwest Promotional Marketing Association (2003 – 2008); Board Member and Treasurer for the Northwest Collegiate Umpires Association (1996 – 2006); and for two terms as President of the Portland Baseball Umpires Association (1996 and 1997. Most recently I was named the Promotional Products Association International / RAC National Volunteer of the Year in 2012.

I look forward to every opportunity to learn more about the CBA and the Blues, and to the opportunity to serve the Association. I will appreciate your voting for me for Secretary.
