Rhythm on the River Blues Benefit Hits Columbia County July 26th

The seventh annual Rhythm on the River Blues benefit takes place at the Clatskanie City Park, on Saturday, July 26th. The event began as a means to raise funds to supplement yearly campaign proceeds for the United Way of Columbia County. This has been accomplished through this festival by providing excellent entertainment, vendors and informational booths from artists and businesses in and around Columbia County.

This year’s entertainment heads into a new direction by bringing in an international act with Harper. The Australian bluesman is known for his harmonica playing and even a bit of didgeridoo. Harper will be backed by his Michigan-based band Midwest Kind.

Muddy Award nominees the Beacon Street Titans will take the stage during the day. Their brand of infectious, hard-swinging, jump swing and blues music will amaze creating a sound and energy that is absolutely irresistible.

Also appearing will be the versatile band Steelhead, who offer various musical styles including classic rock, blues, country and contemporary music. Steelhead is made up of veteran Northwest musicians Greg Larsen, Michael Esquire, Dave Capron, Michael Lee Clark and Billy Traub.

Columbia county musicians will also be represented with sets by Ruby Falls and Linda Myers.

Inaugural Yakima Blues and Local Brews Bash – June 14th

Building on recent efforts to brand Downtown Yakima as an arts and entertainment destination, a new festival will be launched this June built around craft beer produced in the region and locally popular, nationally recognized, and internationally acclaimed blues artists.

The Yakima Blues and Local Brews Bash will make its debut on Saturday, June 14th from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Historic North Front Street district. Two separate stages will be packed with high-quality, non-stop blues throughout the festival. The Depot Stage will showcase the Seattle-based The Wired! Blues Band at 2:45 pm, Kevin Selfe and the Tornados from Portland, Oregon at 5:00 pm, and Chicago’s 16-time Blues Music Award nominated Nick Moss Band at 7:30 pm. The Opera House Stage will feature Yakima favorites Stan Fortier & The Black Market Horns at 2:00 pm, The Rod Giles Band at 4:15 pm, and Shoot Jake at 6:30 pm.

Craft breweries located within 100 miles of Yakima have been invited to showcase their beers at the Yakima Blues and Local Brews Bash and several, including Bale Breaker Brewing Company (Yakima), Yakima Craft Brewing Company (Yakima), Icicle Brewing Company (Leavenworth), and Iron Horse Brewery (Ellensburg) have already committed to be part of the event. Naches Heights Vineyard, Gilbert Cellars, and Antolin Cellars, all based in Yakima, will also be serving their varietals at the festival.

Only people 21 years of age or older will be allowed on the festival grounds, but North Town Coffeehouse (32 North Front Street) will host a free family area during the event.

Tickets to enter the event will cost $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the gate. Tickets for the festival can be purchased at the Capitol Theatre Box Office (19 S. 3rd Street), online at yakimablues.com, or by calling 853-ARTS. Scrip for beer (and wine) tastings, as well as for food prepared by restaurants from the Historic North Front Street district, will be sold at various locations on the festival grounds. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the non-profit Seasons Performance Hall while some of the money generated by the festival will go into a fund to help pay for next year’s bash.

The Ilwaco Blues and Seafood event returns for their 2013 version which may just be the strongest line-up yet in the event’s history. Happening Friday, August 16th and Saturday, August 17th at the Port of Ilwaco in Ilwaco, Washington.

The inaugural Island Park Blues Festival will be held on the banks of the beautiful Willamette River in Springfield, Oregon, on August 9 and 10, 2013.  This event is a fundraiser for FOOD For Lane County. Headliners appearing on the Rooster’s Main Stage will include Lydia Pense & Cold Blood on Friday night and Kenny Neal on Saturday.  You’ll be immersed in all styles of blues music — from roots tunes on handmade instruments up through high voltage progressive tunes.   Multiple generations of performers will join us with elders like king of the buskers Eagle Park Slim and 14 year old sensation Savanna Coen. Beer, wine and hard cider will be available, along with delicious food and non-alcoholic beverages and “Artisans Row” will offer up all sorts of art work and crafts.

2nd Annual Coyote Kings Invitational WALLA WALLA GUITAR FESTIVAL – March 7, 8 & 9

After a successful first year’s event, The Coyote Kings are bringing back the Walla Walla Invitational Guitar Festival in a new two-day format that will include 17 bands in four venues. This year’s showcase will feature many of the Northwest’ finest artists, including the Randy Oxford Band, Kevin Selfe & The Tornadoes, Lisa Mann & Her Really Good Band, the Tommy Hogan Band, Alice Stuart & The Formerlys, Snake Oil Blues Elixir, the Pat Coast Trio, Franco & The Stingers and many more. And of course The Coyote Kings featuring Mush.

It will all happen on Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th with all four venues within a 3-1/2 block radius of one another. Your admission ticket gets you into all shows.
